HEALTHCARE. ENTREPRENEURSHIP. EDUCATION. CLEAN WATER. FOOD SUSTAINABILITY.

HEALTHCARE

The prevalence of malaria, HIV/AIDS, and malnutrition strain a healthcare system facing a shortage of medical professionals and facilities.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Small business owners contend not only with economic uncertainty but limited access to loans and an unreliable infrastructure.

EDUCATION

Only half of all children continue from primary school to high school; girls are especially vulnerable to dropping out.

CLEAN WATER

Water-borne disease due to limited sanitation are widespread, and high levels of fluoride in the groundwater carry health risks.

FOOD SUSTAINABILITY

Insufficient food production, cyclical drought, and underutilized storage methods pose challenges to a booming population.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” –Anthropologist Margaret Mead

One World

Advances in technology and trade are increasing the pace of globalization, making it easier than ever to connect people, goods, ideas, and aid.

WHY TANZANIA

Tanzania may be best known for Serengeti National Park and Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest point, but it’s also among the world’s poorest nations, where population growth continues to outstrip economic gains. More people means more stress on a developing infrastructure and more mouths competing for limited food and water supplies.

ABOUT US

In 2010, American activists founded a scholarship program for students at Kikatiti Secondary School in Tanzania. The program helped more than 400 students complete high school, invested in textbooks and tools, and provided continuing education to teachers. Big 5 Tanzania continues this mission and expands its charitable scope to support entrepreneurship, healthcare, food sustainability, and access to clean water.

HOW TO HELP

Many tourists visit Tanzania to see the “big five” game animals: lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo. We ask that you support five big needs of Tanzanian people: education, entrepreneurship, healthcare, food sustainability, and access to clean water. Donations in any amount will make a difference now and carry a lasting impact for future generations.
